Our PHASOR RAST once again sets new standards in all flight areas of a double-skin paraglider. Above all, the good take-off, flight and gliding characteristics can be used when flying fast or slow recognize the overall performance level. It can be flown very sportily, but it also likes very slow cruising - always with a high safety reserve due to the selected profile and RAST Valves.
The good steering characteristics and high maneuverability were very important to us. This means that even weaker and very tight thermals can be cranked out very well.
Briefly about the development history: Even during my time as a man, I was always fascinated by RAST® umbrellas from Swing. Herry Hoffner, an early RC paraglider pioneer, began to gain his first experiences with DIY RC paragliders a few years ago. His construction, the “RASTY”, presented us Herry is available with his insights. This screen was the cornerstone of our development of the Phasor 2.3. The first step, however, was to get in touch with the Swing company to get this from them to be able to integrate the proven RAST® system exclusively into our RC sports paragliders. With the contractual approval of the use of RAST®, we started our exciting further development of RAST ® RC sports paragliders with high aspect ratio.
The aim was to develop an RC paraglider that is always good-natured and easy to fly when taking off and in a wide variety of flight phases, that "marches" well in the normal flight phase and that does not have much gliding performance in the accelerated state collapses sharply. Even in the thermal position, it should have good and stable handling in the area of ??lowest sinking.
In order to meet these requirements, it was necessary to carry out countless iterations of flow simulations of the canopy. The result is a profile strip with 6 different profiles in the span direction. We achieve a perfectly clamped profile nose, which also makes starting easier, by using Nitinol, a dimensionally stable nickel-titanium alloy with a memory effect. This was a big challenge as we have a very thin profile with tight nose radii. The classic bag for nylon chopsticks cannot therefore be adopted one-to-one.
Mini ribs in the trailing edge improve handling and steering behavior very positively. The sail cut, which ultimately results in the design but mainly influences the sail tension, also had to be optimized. The latest generation of Edelrid Magix Pro Dry is used as a leash for our umbrellas.
The heart of the RAST® paragliders, the RAST® valve, brings many advantages in flight, but represents a lot of effort during the development phase and in prototype construction. With RAST® paragliders a larger number of prototypes are required compared to conventional umbrellas. This is because the overall construction and also the stress distribution are mainly related to the RAST® valve. A lot can be changed later on a conventional prototype without RAST®. If something is wrong with the RAST®, no intervention can be made because it is installed inside the cell and it has to be completely new prototype will be built.
In the end, all that was left of “Rasty” was the elliptical shape. We calculated new profiles and created a modern profile structure in flow simulation, optimized the detent valves and adjusted the detent to have a better effect. Above all, we changed the wing tension and also the angle. The rods were all constructed using the modern Nitinol system, a nickel-titanium alloy Shape memory. The interior was designed to be lightweight. In many series of tests we flew to find the optimal line lengths and angles of attack for the various sections.
Now, dear customers, we have reached our goal with the Phasor 2.3 RAST and can offer it to you here.
Suitability
- The talented beginner will love the ingenious takeoff and slow flight characteristics,
- The leisure and pleasure flyer will be thrilled by the all-round flight characteristics on slopes, in thermals and with a motor,
- The professional and trike pilot appreciates the large weight range and the ingenious take-off and flight characteristics with maximum safety even in the harshest flight conditions. He can rely on the stability of the glider and concentrate entirely on flying.
